Here in Palenville, the lovely, historic Fernwood Restaurant is literally just a 2 minute stroll from The Waterfall House LLC.

Woodstock, a 12 mile drive, is a haven for shops, galleries and restaurants. Stroll along Tinker Street and explore all that Woodstock has to offer. In summer, browse the outdoor flea market held weekends and Wednesdays. Enjoy a concert at the historic Maverick or live theater at the Woodstock Playhouse. The Woodstock Film Festival, held each October, is a movie lovers delight.

Summer is the time for H.I.T.S., a major equestrian center located in Saugerties, just minutes from our Waterfall Home. The Village of Saugerties (8 miles) provides easy access to the Hudson River for boating and sailing. The village itself is home to numerous pubs, restaurants and a variety of shops, including several antique stores where you'll hunt for potential treasures. Saugerties hosts many festivals and events such as the Garlic Festival and the Jazz Festival. A colorful Farmers Market is open on Saturdays in season.

Hunter Mountain (10 miles), provides a wide range of winter and summer activities. Hunter is the first of the three major ski resorts, which also include Windham and Belleayre (ours is a year-round vacation rental). The Catskill Mountain Foundation offers classes in the arts and many craft and culinary events. Nature lovers will appreciate the access to hiking and fishing.

The quaint Village of Catskill (10 miles) is an up and coming arts and antiquing community with several excellent restaurants. Meander a bit further and you'll find Hudson, a town brimming with antique stores of every description as well as a variety of restaurants and cafes. The Hudson Opera House is a historic venue for events of interest.

Spend time with us. Come to our Waterfall Rental House. You'll understand when you hear the soothing sounds of our waterfall why Washington Irving chose Palenville for Rip Van Winkle's classic story.

"A few miles west of the Hudson River, about 40 miles south of Albany, a small stretch of undeveloped land has inspired people of vastly different interests in ways far beyond its limited boundaries....

"The area is easily missed by travelers on the New York State Thruway as they rush between New York City and Albany.  It is even lightly dismissed by winter vacationers hurrying to the local ski slopes, passing obliviously through its main corridor.  Yet to those who discover it, the Kaaterskill region is sublime..."
